Despite a rather lackluster initial impression, the more I listen to it
the more it sounds to me like a mashup of Murmur, Fables of the
Reconstruction, Green, Monster, New Adventures in Hi-Fi and Reveal - in
short, a parade of all the good R.E.M. albums*. It's like Danger Mouse
broke down all the riffs, lines and beats, and then Stipe recorded new
vocals over what he came up with.
So I'm okay with it.
It's still not great like the new Counting Crows, though. That might be my pick for best album of the year (so far).
